EWW VIRUS! GET AWAY FROM ME! AHHHHHH!

    EW EW EW EW! GET AWAY!!!!!!!! I DON'T WANNA GET SICK! AHHHHHH! (breaths heavily) Oh my gosh! The virus was chasing me trying to get me sick! (Don't worry, it was only just a dreeeam!) Oh ok well since I said it, let me go ahead and tell you about it. So a virus is this little tiny thing that basically gets you sick. It has this crown-type-thing on the top. The crown thingy is made up of protein and has DNA or RNA inside.

See, that's something you could have nightmares on? Right, or is it just me...

   That was the simple stuff. Now let's get down to the harder stuff. We are going to learn how viruses reproduce. The main thing you need to know is that it's not alive. OK so a virus enters your body and slips past the white blood cells and a bunch of other things. Then, it finds a cell. It has these key things on them and the cell has these lock things on them. If the key matches the lock, the virus releases its DNA or RNA. The virus then starts using the cell's genetic material to make copies of itself. After that, the cell has so many baby viruses inside it, it explodes! KABOOM! And soon, the viruses are on their way to find a cell to take over and make copies of themselves. And that's basically their life cycle, too. Ooh bonus! Here's a pic.

   So now you know what a virus is. My job's done. Just kidding! I need to give you examples! There are a lot of different kinds of viruses. Some kinds are chicken pox and the common cold. Some of the more serious kinds are AIDS, influenza, measles, polio, tuberculoses, small pox, and even some kinds of cancer. Yeah, viruses are not fun.

    Wait, there is something that can help you not get bad viruses. Or at least, if you do get it, you wont get sick. Before you get confused, I'll tell you what I mean. This thing is called a vaccine. Have you even had to go to the doctor and had to get shots? Ugh I know I have. Anyways, you usually wonder, "Why do I need to get this? How does this help me? WHY ME?!" Well, I'm here to answer your questions. First, we need to know what a vaccine IS. A vaccine is this little bit of virus that gets injected into your body, via needle. (lucky us) Alrighty, now since we know what it is, we can talk about it. Vaccines are really important. The little bit of virus enters you body, and your body tries to fight it. Oh yeah, that little virus, its not real. As in it wont actually hurt you. Well your body thinks its real so it fights it. And then, it will remember how to defeat that kind of virus. So, if you get the real thing, your body will know how to beat it. And everyone gets vaccines.

Science Fair :|

    Hey guys! So today's topic ISN'T going to be about science. (GASP!) I know, I know but I'm gonna talk about the science fair. Fun....yeah not really. As everyone knows, I strongly dislike with compassion the science fair. I've never liked it since the beginning, which was kindergarten.

This is EXACTLY me!!!

  







  But, I have to admit, it wasn't as bad this year. The main reason was the judges! THEY BLINKED THIS YEAR! See, last year I was in the middle of my presentation when, suddenly, the doors opened and this tall man walked in. He was wearing a black tux, he also had these black sunglasses. He had one of those buzz cuts that you get if your in a military school. He then pulls out this notebook and takes off his sunglasses and says..."What's your project?" And, you guessed it, he never blinked! He reminded me of the man in black.



What's your science project?

















   OK, let me tell you about my science project. It was, "What kind of spin makes you the most dizzy?" I chose it because I love to spin! I also thought it would be fun to have an excuse to spin. I used 3 volunteers, Aubrey, Anabel, and my sis Zeina. OK so what I would do was make them sit in this chair and I would spin them. I would stop them three different ways. I would then record all these different things. Then I did all this math to make my OWN graphs! Ugh extra math equals not happy Celine.



   Hahahaha I just remembered a couple funny stories. Do you want me to tell you? (nodding) Eh, I'll pass! Just kidding! OK so I was SO mean when we were doing the experiment! I kept yelling and screaming at Aubrey, Anabel, and Zeina! At one point, Anabel records me yelling at them. It was funny I have to admit. I'm sorry you guys! Also, after Aubrey spun for the last time, she was jumping out of the chair and then...she fell! HAHAHAHAHHAHA!
It happened so fast though! Like one second I turned around, everything is normal, then, I hear a BOOM and I trun around and see Aubrey on the floor! I started laughing and Anabel said, "I should've gotten that on video!" Eventually we helped her after we found out she was actually in pain. But it was funny! And Anabel's right, we shood've gotten that on video!

   Well after all the headache, the stress, the extra math (groan), I'm just really glad it's over! The judging went well though. I knew what I was talking about and I had Kenneth and Lizzy in the background. They just kept smiling whick helped A LOT! Thanks you guys! Everyone is always saying, "I hope I win the science fair!" Or sometimes I hear, "I hope I get a good grade in the science fair!" And you wanna know what I say? "I just hope I pass the science fair!" Because last year I FAILED! So hope that doesn't happen this year. And I honestly don't think I will. You know, an A would be nice...

   Alright it's the day after the science awards, and I'm here to tell you about it. It was actually fun! Chase, who was in charge of the music, played awesome science songs! And I also liked how Mr.Sellers kept us all in suspense! Anyways, I didn't actually win anything but thats ok because I've decided that I'm too good for the award! Oh yeah Kayte!!!!!!

Pump It! LOUDER!!!!!

Omg I love that song! You know, that song reminded me of something. It Reminded me of blood. You might be thinking, "How the heck is she reminded of blood by that song?" The answer to that is...blood is pumped to every part of your body by your heart. Since we started on it, let's finish it. First thing we will be talking about are red blood cells! Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to every other part of the body. They also collect carbon dioxide from the body and take it back to the lungs. Red blood cells are originally called erythrocyte. They are made in bone marrow. Weird right? They are SO tiny! As in 125 red blood cells placed end to end wold only be a millimeter long!!!!! They look like tiny little doughnuts! Alrighty, that's red blood cells. Now, let's talk about white blood cells. White blood cells fight off diseases that enter your body. There are two different kinds of white blood cells. One of them is called B-cell. B-cells are kinda like security guards. They see the diseases and send electrical signals throughout the body. Then the other cell called the T-cell. T-cells are the ones that attack the diseases. Do you wanna know HOW they attack them? Are you sure? OK well remember you asked. They eat them.

OK so we finished with the cells. Now lettuce move on to-oh sorry I'm really hungry. Anyways, the next thing is...HEMOGLOBIN! I love that word! Hemoglobin is really important. It's the thing in red blood cells that carries the oxygen. So, without hemoglobin, red blood cells wouldn't have a purpose! Cuz without oxygen, your body can't survive! And then, there is no need for the red blood cells to carry carbon dioxide, waste, etc! Alrighty then, since we got hemoglobin down, (it's still so much fun to say!) let's talk about plasma. Plasma, or blood plasma to be more specific, is the liquid part of blood. It's 90% water and 10% proteins, minerals, waste, clotting stuff, hormones, and this thing called, omg immunoglobins! YAY MORE FUNNY WORDS! Plasma is also super important. Without it, blood would have no way to travel around the body. Did you know you can actually separate plasma from blood? And it's actually really easy! First, take some blood from a person. Then, put it in this machine called a centrifuge. the heavier blood will go to the bottom and the plasma will go to the top. Plasma is usually a yellow color. OK this is gonna be short. Platelets are the things that clot the blood when you get a cut. They are very important because without them, we would bleed to death from a simple paper cut.

Now, we're going to talk about giving blood. This is a very nice thing to do. What you do is you go to a blood bank, like the American Red Cross, and you have to answer some questions. This is so people can see if your blood is healthy or not. If it is, you sit in this chair and someone will come and take a pint of your blood. You may feel light headed afterwards so they give you all this free food you can eat! YUM! Next up is blood types. This is the kind of blood you have. There are four major kinds of blood groups. A, B, AB, and O. O+ is the most common and AB- is the least common. You inherit your blood type from your parents. Like my mom and dad are both A+, so, I'm A+. What kind are you?

Lovey Dovey Heart Heart!

   HI HI! It's me! Sorry I haven't been putting an blog posts lately. I had a reason! I didn't want to. Just kidding! I've been researching all these different topics for my all new chapter! YAY! So, let's get down to business. We're going to be talking about the heart!



    No, no we are going to be talking about the heart that's inside you. Well, you obviously know that your heart pumps blood to every part of your body. You know that it makes the BU-BUM BU-BUM sound. But it's actually more complex than that. I'm using big words! Anyways, the heart is an involuntary muscle. That means that it beats without you thinking about it. The heart is mainly two colors. One side is blue and one side is red. Now, each color means different things. The blue side gets filled with low-oxygen blood. It gets sent back to the lungs to get oxyginized. The red part gets filled with blood that has high-oxygen and it gets sent to all parts of the body. And this all happens in one beat. Did I mention that your heart is only the size of your fist? WOW!

       Now, I'll tell you guys about the different parts of the heart and what those parts do. The heart has four chambers. Two on the top and two on the bottom. The top chambers are called the atria. The bottom chambers are called the ventricles. The septum is the thing that seperates the right and left sides of your heart. The valves are the things seperate the four different chambers. They open to let the blood come in and close right after so the blood can't leave. It's like a one way road. Oh and did you know that the opening and closing of your valves is what makes the BU-BUM BU-BUM sound?

2 blogs IN ONE! YAY =D

    The big big BANG!  Hey everyone! Well today we're going to do something a little different. I'm doing 2 blogs in one! Because I'm that awesome! And because I have 2 things I want to talk about and I just can't decide! So yeah. OK so obviously we're talking about The Big Bang first. The Big Bang is a theory that everything in the universe just exploded. Space, time, matter, you name it. Scientists say that all that stuff started out in a tiny dot called a singularity.

        Then, the singularity EXPLODED! (kaboom!) No one knows how, it just...happened. Well, this explosion caused all the matter and time to go in all different directions. You know, the awesomeness we were talking about earlier? (chirp,chirp) What do you not remember or something? (chirp,chirp) Oh you don't. Well then re-read it. Anyways, this theory was created by a Belgian priest named Georges Lemaitre. Yeah I don't know how to say it, so please don't ask. Everyone thought he was crazy. But he still believed that theory. Then, around the 1920s, 2 guys named Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson found something awesome. They found radiation left over from the Big Bang! Awesome. Plus, they also made a cool song out of that theory. Here, let me show you.






     BLEEP BLAP BLOOP! Greetings and salutations! I am Zisnorn from the planet..well you don't need to know. Celine told me that she wanted to have an alien come and talk to you creatures. So here I am!  Well I can't tell you creatures very much . But what I can tell you is that not all aliens are mean and nasty. And we don't look green and have antenas. Because we're just one planet in one solar system in one galaxy. There are like a jillion galaxies in the universe! There's got to be something else ou there! I'm not entirely sure if we'll ever come face to face with them, but there is something out there. One day, in the DISTANAT future maybe we'll prove that there is something out there! Until then... (mysterious music)

Gala-la-laxy!!!!!! =P

     Galaxy! Gala-la-laxy! Hey guys! It's me! So today we're going to talk about galaxies. Does anyone remember what a galaxy is? (umm is it a cloud of matter?) Close, it's a cloud of dust, gas, planets, and stars. But good try! (thank you!) Well we're gonna try to get a little bit more detailed than that today. We're gonna learn about, "the three major classifications of galaxies." That's what Mr.Sellers (my science teacher) told me to write about in specific. But don't get me wrong, this is a very interesting topic. Lemme show you.
        OK so the classifications are, drum roll please. Dudududuudududududududu..... Elliptical, Spiral, and Irregular! Here is what they are:
Elliptical Galaxies- They're shaped like an oval or a disk. It's very BRIGHT! It actually gets brighter as you get further in. Something cool is that they don't have an, "exact axis of rotation." That means that it doesn't spin in a specific way.

Spiral Galaxies- Spirals have three parts. A bulge, a disk, and a halo. The bulge is in the center and it has most of the older stars. The disk has a bunch of gas, dust, and younger stars. It makes up the arms. Cool fact: Our sun is in an arm. The halo is around the bulge and some of the disk. It also contains clusters of stars called global clusters.

Irregular Galaxies- These galaxies have no definate shape or form. There isn't much we know about them. We DO know that they have mostly younger stars. They have different shapes and sizes. Basiclly they're the rejects. They're um...what do you call it? (irregular?) YEAH! That's it!

Got Milk-y Way?

        YO YO YOSIF! IT BE ME ME ME! LOL! Hey guys. I'm here with another awesome blog for you guys! Today we're going to talk about something sweet. It's called the Milky Way galaxy. Does anyone here know what that is?

        Sigh I really thought you were gonna get it this time! (oh man!) Well the Milky Way is our galaxy. A galaxy is a giant cluster of stars, dust, gas, and planets. Now since you know what a galaxy is, we're gonna talk about the Milky Way. Well first, its 100,000 light-years across. A light-year is measured on how fast light travels in a year. Another thing is that its a barred spiral. It basically looks like a spiral except it has a line instead of a giant sphere in the center. Here is a pic:

       In every galaxy, there is a giant black hole in the center. Ours has one, too. That's why our galaxy keeps spinning. That's something I thought was cool and thought you should know! Another cool thing about the Milky Way is that it has over 200 billion stars! And belive it or not, it's only a middle sized galaxy! Woah. From Earth we can see only 2,500 stars.

      This galaxy has a lot of gas and dust. It doesn't seem like it but 10-15% of the "normal matter" is dust. And by normal matter, I mean matter that's not dark matter. Dark matter is somthing that reacts with other matter by using gravity. It takes up 80% of all the matter in the universe.  If you thing that's bad, wait till you here this! The Milky Way wasn't always an innocent pretty, galaxy. It got to be this big because it ate other galaxies! Infact, it's eating one right now! The galaxy is called  Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy. One last thing, it's located in a place called the Local Group, with 30 other galaxies.
